TIME TO PAY ATTENTION. DISCORD IS

Time to pay attention. Discord is bringing back age or identity verification systems to their platform globally and it's expected by the end of this year. You may have forgotten the first time they tried this last year when they partnered with the Peter Thiel-backed company Persona, proceeded to get hacked and allegedly over two million people's government IDs were exposed. Then they came out with a public statement saying, we're sorry, we're still gonna do this. We're just gonna wait until you guys forget about it. And then we're gonna work with another company. And so now they're back with another company. The way it's gonna work is every profile is gonna be auto teen account and certain things restricted. You're not able to talk on stage channels, message request settings are not gonna be changeable. Messages with people are gonna be auto blurred if they're sensitive and not safe. Channels and servers are gonna be blocked until you provide them with a scan of your face, a scan of your government ID, you connect your Google Wallet, which usually has your passport or credit card. I've said this probably a million times at this point, but these age verification systems are one of many for the surveillance being built and it's meant to remove anonymity off of the internet because parents are helping their kids bypass these age verification systems. So it's not actually protecting any of them. Also, this predominantly impacts people of colour, are not trained on people of colour enough. It also impacts disabled people, trans people and allows all of these companies to track everything you say and do online. And you're worried up on platforms where they may or interact with harmful content, instead of supporting new company rules like this or laws like the KIDS Act package, I'd recommend actually parenting your kids instead.
