1996 was 30 years ago. 2001 was 25 years ago. 2006 was 20 years ago. And I know those are just numbers, but somehow seeing them written out like that hits differently. Because in my head, the 90s are still “a couple decades ago.” The early 2000s still feel recent. 2010 still feels like it happened maybe five years ago. But it didn’t. Time has been moving whether we noticed it or not. While we were waiting for the right time. Waiting until we had more money. Waiting until work slowed down. Waiting until we felt ready. Waiting to take the trip. Waiting to call someone. Waiting to start over. Waiting for some future version of our lives where everything finally made sense. The years kept going. And I don’t say that to make anyone panic about getting older. I think I’m starting to see it as the opposite. Maybe realizing how fast 30 years can disappear is exactly the reminder we need to stop treating our lives like there will always be more time later. Because one day, 2026 is going to be the year we talk about like this. “Remember 2026?” And somehow it’ll be 2056. That sounds impossible right now. I’m sure 2026 sounded impossible in 1996 too. Time waits for no one. So call the person. Take the picture. Go somewhere. Make the thing. Say what you need to say. Be ridiculous sometimes. Do something your future self will actually remember. Because these aren’t just years passing by. This is our life. And it’s happening right now. What year still feels like it was only a few years ago to you? #90sKids #Millennials #MillennialNostalgia #90sNostalgia #2000sNostalgia
