So we're halfway through the series and if you haven't seen the rest of them then go back and check them out. But today we've got a skill brought to you by Zaynah. Instead of wasting your bones after a Sunday roast, why not make a chicken bone broth. So I'm just going to start by chopping up all of our veggies and putting them into the pot. I've got one carcass of chicken and then a couple of wings as well. Just start by chopping up your onion. And it doesn't have to be perfect. For one kilo of chicken, we've got one large onion and two carrots. Give it a rough chop. Into the pot. And then for your leek, same thing. Roughly chop it. And then into the pot. And then two sticks of celery. And the good thing about this broth is it's super versatile so you can just use whatever leftover vegetables that you have in your fridge. Next we're going to add in our chicken. And a little drizzle of oil. Chop your garlic in half. And this is optional, but I also like to use some ginger. Charring just adds an extra smoky flavour to your stock. We're just going to put our pot onto a medium heat and fry the chicken for a couple of minutes just until it picks up some colour and until it becomes fragrant. Add in your spices for a little extra flavour kick and it also makes them digestible for your body. For this amount of chicken, you need roughly 1.5 litres of water. Cold water is the key to a crystal clear stock. The stock is done. We're just going to remove the chicken. Then we just need to strain it. So not only have we minimised food waste, but we've also mastered how to make a simple chicken stock. There you have it. Come back and unlock a new skill next time.
