YOU WANNA KNOW

You wanna know to get a kid to do what they don't wanna do? Like take a bath or get in a car? It's very simple. All you do is you put them in charge of a specific aspect of it without ever acknowledging the task directly. So instead of saying, hey, it's time to get in the car, you look at a kid and you say, hey, you are the music maestro, okay? You get to decide the music. You're in charge of it. Or, hey, you are the towel king. You get to pick whatever towels you want for bath time, but you have charge of it, okay? Can I trust you with that? Now, I find that fancy title really helps you tell. You tell a kid, hey, you are the queen of the spoons, okay? It's on you. You are in charge of getting all the spoons into the dishwasher. It's also helpful to make the task specific, okay? Like just the spoons, and then the forks or whatever. Go one at a time. Make it easy to be in charge of. Because being responsible for something that you're not in control of sucks. That's why being a middle manager is the worst. You don't actually have any power, any control. But you do have the expectation of the things you have to do and all of this responsibility. What it does is it gives the kids a little bit of power, a little bit of control. I do, once again, I find the silly titles really add to it. But you don't do that, just say, hey, you're in charge of making sure everyone seatbelts are buckled in the car, including me, okay? I'm in charge of you. Even a kid in charge of you putting on your seatbelt is way more willing to get in the car seat than a kid who is not and is just told to get in the car. Okay?
