As a derm PA, I inspect your body odor very closely and I smell all of you. And there are five areas that end up smelling-er and stinkier than other areas, which is okay and normal, but these are my tips to help unstink yourself. Again, this is all normal, it's body chemistry, sweat, pH, but there are ways to reduce body odor. We'll start from the top down. It's usually greasy, oily hair. If you can smell your own hair, chances are other people can as well. First thing is washing your hair more often. I wash every other day, but what you wash with matters as well. Everyone needs a clarifying shampoo. I really like the K18 Detox shampoo. This is going to help with buildup and sebum production. I also like the Dr. Groot Scalp solution. Do this a couple times a week, your hair is going to be silky smooth and your scalp is going to feel so clean. Even if you don't have dandruff, I'm a big fan of an anti-dandruff shampoo. This is Nizarol shampoo. It has ketoconazole in it, which is an antifungal. This is going to help decolonize anything that's causing odor and control scalp irritation and itching. Oral hygiene is so important. I feel like if I can smell your breath through my mask, that is very powerful. Baseline, brush twice a day, floss daily. I always carry some floss with me. I really like the Cocofloss one. And a good mouthwash as well. This is Therabreath mouth wash. I'm almost empty. This was recommended to me by my dentist. It has no alcohol, no dyes, and it's non-burning. I try to carry mouthwash with me as well. These ones are from Japan, they're little individual packets, really cute, really convenient. This combo will eliminate your smelly armpit. Your sweat at baseline is not stinky. It's the bacteria that's feeding on it that makes it stinky. So using an antimicrobial wash helps a lot. This is Hibiclens. We use this in office to clean the skin. I do this on my armpits probably once a week and it helps a lot. If you don't want to use Hibiclens, you can use a benzoyl peroxide wash. This is the CeraVe benzoyl peroxide wash. Use it as a body wash a couple times a week. Leave it on for a couple minutes before rinsing it off and I promise it makes a huge difference. Then you can use a deodorant. I like the Cyklar Mandelic acid deodorant. It smells excellent. Also has mandelic acid. This is going to help with odor and pigmentation on the underarm. So it's going to help brighten. I always carry a mini Hypochlorous acid spray with me. This is the Tower 28 one. It's antimicrobial. It's going to help with breakouts but also body odor. I'll spray this on my underarms post-workout. I also really like Saltair Glycolic acid spray. You can spray this on your underarms for odor and pigmentation. Also on your body if you tend to get acne on your chest or back. Also helps a lot with texture and pigmentation. In terms of feminine hygiene, we are self-cleansing. So absolutely no douching. But you do smell some odor when the pH is off. So I do like to use an external pH cleanser. This is the Inertia one. Very gentle. I've talked about this one a lot and I'm only recommending it because I've used it a long time without any irritation. I feel like there are a lot of people walking around with undiagnosed athlete's foot and we can fix that with simple solutions. We can actually use these same washes, Hibiclens, a couple times a week to decolonize. Nizarol shampoo is ketoconazole, it's an antifungal. Couple times a week, leave it on before rinsing. This should help a lot. If that doesn't work, you can get clotrimazole cream over the counter. It's an antifungal. It's going to help with athlete's foot. If you've used this for a few weeks and it doesn't work, obviously go see your derm. Hopefully that was helpful. There is no shame in stink. We all have body odor, but there are ways we can reduce it. If you guys have any questions, let me know.
