I put deodorant on this morning, but like the pit, it's like deodorant, BO sweat. If you have stinky pits, even though you put your deodorant on this morning, it's okay, I've got you. I'm a board certified dermatologist, and you might be treating the wrong. Two things are contributing to your stinky pits, sweat and bacteria. Sweat itself doesn't actually smell. The odor develops when bacteria on your skin breaks down component of your sweat. As a dermatologist, I approach this in two ways. First, target the bacteria. You want to target the bacteria. You do this in two ways. Either wash your armpits with 10% benzoyl peroxide or use glycolic acid two to three nights a week. It lowers the skin's pH, which can make it less friendly for the odor-causing bacteria. Word of caution on glycolic acid, always patch test first, and never put glycolic acid on freshly shaved pits. Second, target the sweat. You wanna do is, you wanna target the sweat itself. People get it wrong. You wanna use an antiperspirant, not a deodorant, and you wanna make sure you apply it at bedtime, not in the morning. Antiperspirant works best on clean, completely dry skin at night, when your sweat glands are less active. You can still use your deodorant if you want to of way. So next time you stinky pits, hit that bacteria and sweat. Follow me for more dermatologist-approved skin tips that explain why your body does things the way it does.
