body odor is a STRATEGY problem. let's fix it USING hygiene products at Walmart! ft. the ABC Method what most people about body odor not always a bad hygiene issue if you're showering frequently but still stinky it's probably a strategy issue up the actual products and practices in your routine let's go hygiene you can find at Walmart or any drugstore using the ABC method that's designed cleaner and fresher for longer A: Address the Buildup Bacteria loves to feed on sweat, dirt, oils, and dead skin. Not removing them properly encourages bacteria and makes anything else you use less effective! the first step is addressing the Bacteria is what causes odor and bacteria loves to feed on sweat, dirt, oils, dirt and dead skin. aren't thoroughly removing those from our we are increasing our chance of Eco Tools Exfoliating Bath Net ($7.88) always recommend using some type of cleansing implement in the shower because it gives you extra lifting action versus just using your hand if you can on an authentic African net sponge you need something quick in store this Eco Tools is the closest thing the cloth has textured open weaving that helps with and debris from the surface weaving also ensures that it doesn't hold onto bacteria when you're done I find these more effective than regular washcloths Dove body wash (any scent will do!) ($7.97-10.97) I'm not gonna bar soap is better than body washes because they all surfactants and they are designed to do the exact same thing your preference is a body cleanser of deep cleansing without stripping your skin the fancy frilly washes I'll save the fancy frilly washes for a second cleanse and instead use something simple like Dove's body washes for your first cleanse because they have gentle yet effective surfactants going to lift dirt and debris going to come in multiple really fun scents I love the cucumber or tea one but you can tell the actual cleansing power was the priority when they created why it's been years now B: Balance the Biome Our skin needs both good and bad bacteria to thrive, so our goal is to strike a balance so the bad bacteria doesn't take over and cause odor! be balancing the microbiome the microbiome of microorganisms that skin including bacteria and our skin actually needs good bacteria in order to defend itself so we don't nuke every single trace of bacteria balance an overproduction of odor causing bacteria Dove Antibacterial Body Wash ($7.97-10.97) ways way is by directly not everybody needs an antibacterial everyone needs to every single day but they can be beneficial for people who struggle with severe persistent body odor or conditions like body acne or hidradenitis suppurativa the reason why I recommend Dove's antibacterial body wash over any other antibacterial body cleanser uses a very low percentage of benzalkonium chloride the antibacterial agent and it has a moisture complex that nourishes your skin barrier so it's not getting damaged your problem spots times a week can make a huge difference with bacteria Magic Molecule Hypochlorous Acid Spray ($19.97) another ingredient that bacteria directly is hypochlorous already naturally make hypochlorous acid and it's a molecule that gently disinfects the skin sanitizes it while also calming inflammation because of how it's safe to all over the face and body it directly onto or apply it around I highly recommend doing it after a shower do it throughout especially if you've been active or anytime you start to smell a little funky there's no need to spend a lot of money on this ingredient Magic Molecule makes a bottle of it at a very decent price PanOxyl Acne Foaming Wash ($10.67) the second way we can control odor causing bacteria is creating a hostile environment for the bacteria benzoyl peroxide works by penetrating the oxygen which kills the bacteria because bacteria don't like oxygenated environments that makes it perfect for killing bacteria but it also works really well for odor causing bacteria I really like PanOxyl's 10% benzoyl peroxide acne foaming wash cause face and the body it has a nice creamy lather I recommend doing short contact therapy with this and leaving it on your problem areas as a mask for a couple minutes so it really has time to work you don't need to use this just a couple times a week or as needed Lume Acidified Deodorant Wipes ($14.97) bacteria also doesn't like low pH environments Our skin is naturally acidic so we don't have to do anything crazy but using ingredients like alpha hydroxy acids so mandelic acid lactic acid glycolic acid all help with safely lowering the pH of the skin lactic acid also helps with gently exfoliating of that dead skin the way so the bacteria to feed on as these also have ingredients and some aloe vera replenishing and rehydrating your skin they're also safe to be used downstairs to keep yourself as well T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel liquid or wipes ($4.97-5.97) to use witch hazel directly to controlling that sebum make sure to that is not distilled with alcohol because the alcohol will dry out and irritate your skin I like the T.N. Dickinsons line you can either get it in this big bottle and apply it with a cotton round also make pre made wipes for throwing in your bag or keeping at your bedside you can use head to toe for freshening up and the ingredient is also anti inflammatory so it keeps your skin nice and soothed C: Control the Sweat Sweat is odorless, but bacteria digesting sweat = FUNKINESS Bacteria also loves moisture, so we need to limit sweat and moisture in areas where they like to linger. and the last strategy is to control the sweat Sweat is odorless but bacteria digesting the sweat is what causes the stinkiness bacteria also thrives in dark environments where sweat likes to and we don't give it free residence on our skin Dove Clinical Care Antiperspirant Soft Solid ($10.97) our first line of defense be using an aluminum based antiperspirant yes aluminum an allergy that prevents you from to go out to avoid it it has been proven time and again by scientific studies that aluminum is neither toxic nor cancer causing aluminum compounds are what actually plug your sweat glands to prevent you from sweating aluminum free deodorants are not capable of stopping sweat they might try to mask that really only goes so far if you've tried multiple antiperspirants and it feels like nothing works I highly recommend trying out Dove clinical care antiperspirant specifically the soft solid version as someone who sweats excessively due to my hyperhidrosis I love that combination of aluminum and zirconium to give you the highest level of sweat protection I prefer the soft solid version because it has a cream consistency that doesn't trigger my hidradenitis suppurativa and it also has a moisturizing complex so your underarms don't get dried out in the best antiperspirant at night on clean skin so it has time to activate before the Ban Antiperspirant ($4.97) if you also have hidradenitis suppurativa but find that most antiperspirants give you really bad boils or irritation there has been showing that gel and liquid antiperspirants not only are gentler on hidradenitis with resolving it Ban is a super affordable gel antiperspirant that dries on super easily and keeps you dry and odor free all day long antiperspirant Dove Advanced Care Dry Spray ($8.97) antiperspirant doesn't have to for your underarms either you can use it on your body heavily sweating antiperspirant dry sprays like the Dove Advanced Care Dry Spray the way to go because it's easy to use on other parts and because it it mostly stays dry as well of fun scents Dove has lots of fun scents from usually the cucumber or but this new Santo and Sage is my absolute favorite ZeabsorbAF Antifungal Powder ($7.88) controlling sweat is by using moisture wicking body powders These use different powdered ingredients that help with absorbing moisture throughout the day If you are someone who struggles with body odor under your boobs or in between your rolls using a body powder with miconazole nitrate like this one from Zeabsorb will not only control the moisture but will also the bacteria and fungi like yeast that are often the cause of those areas You'll often see them labeled as athlete's foot treatments but they're perfectly fine on other parts of your body Anti Monkey Butt Anti Friction Body Powder ($6.97) And if you want a regular non medicated body powder the Anti Monkey Butt body powder has moisture wicking ingredients like kaolin baking soda cornstarch and tricalcium phosphate that will also absorb sweat and moisture throughout the day save this for later + check out my in-depth "ABC Method" guide!
