You should be training close to failure for muscle hypertrophy! During my reps I always control the eccentric portion for a certain amount of time, but during the concentric portion (going back up) I try to contract my muscle as forcefully as I can (while still controlling the movement). You can gauge when you’re reaching failure by the speed of the concentric portion of the exercise when it starts to slow down involuntarily. This is important for hypertrophy because as you progress through the set, your brain recruits more motor units to keep up with the force demand. As your reps naturally slow down and you approach failure, more high-threshold motor units are recruited, which allows for more of the targeted muscle fibers to be exposed to the mechanical tension that stimulates muscle hypertrophy. #gymtips #gymmotivation #workoutconsistency #legday #GymTok @DFYNE | MABEL 🤍
