If you bank with Halifax, from the 5th of October 2026, Halifax will begin closing its app and online banking services. So what does that mean for you? I had to find out myself because I'm still literally paying back a 300k mortgage with Halifax. Long story short, Halifax is already owned by Lloyds Banking Group, but instead of having the two separate brands, Halifax and Lloyds, the Halifax brand is changing to Lloyds. That means if you're a Halifax customer, you may have got a notification asking you to move over to Lloyds online banking. But don't worry, I got it as well. I've just done it and it literally took less than a minute. Open the Halifax app and at the top of the homepage you should see a notification asking you to start using the Lloyds app. You literally can't miss it. So select get started and then just follow the process. And I was expecting to have to create a new password, remember new bank details, and move all of my direct debits and standing orders across, but no, everything is completely unchanged and my Halifax accounts and my mortgage were already there waiting for me in the Lloyds app. The only thing that's actually changed is I can now manage my accounts through Lloyds online banking. And by the looks of it, I should also get access to Lloyds rewards, which gives me access to cashback, challenges, and prize draws. So if like me, you got the notification to move over, but you've been putting it off because you think it might be a hassle, it couldn't have been more easy and you might as well get it done before the Halifax banking app starts to close in October.
