I'm not even saying this to be extreme, but if you are genuinely depressed, it might just be because you don't live in a walkable city. Coming from someone who now lives in a walkable city and has realized how much better my mental health was whenever I was somewhere where I didn't need a car. I think a walkable city has almost become like a trendy term where it would be fun to live there and it's cool, but in reality, when you feel like you actually have a sense of community, like I can walk into a grocery store and talk with the cashier that I've seen a few times, or I can go sit at a coffee shop and know I'll see people I recognize there. It's just so much less isolated. We're in a freaking isolated world too, like we're in a world where people go work their job, come home, make dinner, watch TV, repeat. It's really sad. And I'm doing stuff almost every single day after work, and that's literally because I live in a city where that is feasible because of the way it's designed. Also, exercise does wonders for your mental health and when you're walking five miles a day without even trying, it's amazing. If you want to know how to move to a walkable city.
