Water is neutral, so when it burns, look at what it's touching. Usually it's one of three things: Irritated tissue: pepsin from past reflux can stay in your throat tissue and keep it inflamed, so even a neutral liquid stings. Visceral hypersensitivity: the nerves in your esophagus are turned up, so a normal sensation registers as burning. Stress turns them up more. A weak LES: the valve at the top of your stomach isn't closing well, and a big glass stretches your stomach, which makes it relax even more often. To start addressing all 3 of these issues, it’s more than just a low acid diet. My free reflux guides are linked in my bio. #acidreflux #refluxtok #silentreflux #LPR #refluxdietitian
