Welcome to day one of finally reorganizing my garage. If you are new here, my name is Katie and I'm kind of obsessed with all things cleaning and organizing. I'm actually embarrassed to show the entire internet that this is my garage, because there is not a single thing that is organized in this room. So today is the day that we start to change that. I have a dumpster in my driveway that is completely empty and ready to be filled, so let's get started. These are my inspirations for this room. I just want something that is clean and organized and makes sense. And let's remember, this is a garage. This isn't anything fancy. We are doing organized but on a budget. My goal is to spend less than $500, so we are going to reuse a lot of stuff that I already have in the garage. Goal for today is to get this one wall completely cleared off, because this is going to be where almost all of our storage is. So today I'm just taking everything off the wall. I am completely moving the workbench out of the way. Did I also mention that I'm doing this alone? There is nobody here helping me today, so we are busting out the power tools. We are taking everything off the wall. And as I'm taking everything off the walls, I'm going through and throwing stuff away or just organizing it. And let me tell you, there was a lot of stuff that I threw away. If you want to seriously make your heart happy in your 30s, rent a dumpster. I 10 out of 10 recommend. Okay, here came the part that I was a little nervous for, taking all these cabinets down by myself. Now, I'm a strong independent girlie and I got it all done. It was definitely not pretty, but let me tell you, it felt so good to throw those things into the dumpster. They have been hanging on the walls for seven years, ever since we moved into this house, and they really needed to go. And for anybody trying to come at me in the comments about how nice these cabinets were, cabinets literally fell apart as I was taking them down. Now that the cabinets are down, this wall is finally cleared. I was so excited at this point because it felt like I was really making progress, but we're just now going to talk about the whole rest of the garage. So now we are going to get ready to paint. This whole wall is a pegboard, so we are not going to take the pegboard off of the wall. There's actually a little sticker on it that says do not remove. I am not adventurous enough to figure out what's behind this. We are going to paint the door, we are going to paint all the paneling around it. Store has had these stickers on it since we moved in and this brown ugly color has got to go. I ended up finding some random spray paint and just kind of doing a priming coat on it. And I had this paint in my basement. It's called Tricorne Black. It's an interior and exterior paint and we had a full gallon of it. I have absolutely no idea what project we were going to use it for, but now we're going to use it in the garage. So as of right now, I've literally spent no money on this project except for the dumpster, which I'm not going to count. I'm also going to paint my husband's workbench, not because he asked me to, but because I just want to. And of course, it's getting the same black color as well. After I was done painting for the day, I started working on one of the cabinets that we're going to add to this space to help with storage. Got this one off Amazon and it ended up being around $100. And again, I put it together all by myself. I did use my husband's help once he got home from work. You know, honestly, this is his area, so I did want his input, especially as I was organizing and putting things away. I mean, he has to be able to find everything, right? And even though this wall is done, we have so much more work to do, so make sure you follow along for tomorrow.
