3 things I wish I’d known about losing weight in my 40s! I’m 58, post-menopause, and I lost 30lbs at 54. And ladies, if only I’d known these 3 things sooner, I could have saved myself years of frustration! Here’s what I wish someone had told me… 1. YOU DON’T NEED HOURS OF CARDIO TO LOSE WEIGHT! I used to think I had to do loads of cardio to burn fat. How wrong was I! Walking every day is one of the simplest things you can do to help with weight loss. It’s gentle on your joints, helps burn calories and is something you can actually stick to! I walk every day now, and I swapped those long cardio sessions for short strength workouts at home. Best decision I ever made! 2. EATING LESS AND LESS IS NOT THE ANSWER! Ladies, starving yourself is NOT the way to lose weight! Eating too little can leave you exhausted, hungry and constantly thinking about your next meal. And let’s face it, nobody wants to live on lettuce leaves! What finally worked for me was eating 3 proper meals a day, including protein with every meal, and making sure I was in a small, sensible calorie deficit. You need to eat enough to nourish your body while still consuming slightly fewer calories than you burn. 3. EXERCISING WITH WEIGHTS IS A GAME CHANGER! Oh, how I wish I’d started lifting weights sooner! As we get older, we naturally lose muscle, especially around menopause. And muscle is so important for keeping us strong. I now do just 20-25 minutes of strength exercises at home, 3-4 times a week. No gym, no fancy equipment. And ladies, you don’t need to lift enormous weights either. Start light and gradually build up as you get stronger. And if there’s one thing I want you to take away from this, it’s that YOU ARE NOT TOO OLD TO LOSE WEIGHT AND CHANGE! It’s never too late to start, ladies.
