Post-nasal drip that never goes away isn't always your sinuses 👇 Constant throat clearing and excess mucus or post-nasal drip are among the most common symptoms of silent reflux (LPR), which is reflux that reaches your throat, often with no heartburn. In a study of 68 people who had 24-hour pH testing, those with reflux reaching the throat had significantly more post-nasal drip symptoms on the sinus questionnaire than those without it. And in a survey of 90,440 ENT clinic patients in China, about 1 in 10 screened positive for LPR, yet only 14% of them had ever been diagnosed. If allergy medicine, nasal sprays, and sinus treatments haven't worked and your allergy tests came back normal, ask your doctor whether silent reflux could be part of the picture. Notice whether the drip and throat clearing are worse after meals, when you lie down, or first thing in the morning, and bring that to your appointment. My free silent reflux checklist is in my bio, so you can see if your symptoms fit. 📚 Wise SK et al., 2006, Am J Rhinol, n=68 with 24-hour pH testing, PMID 16871930.
