I just had a wild conversation with a CEO who just sold their company for $200M. He attributed a lot of his company's success to the way they approached competitive Intel. Check out his approach... If I'm profiling a competitor, right? I'm going to have demographic information, like couple paragraphs, I'm going to have location, but I'm going to have an org chart, as much as I can of an org chart. I'm going to start building out over-time sentiment analysis of like what do they tweet about? What is the cadence of announcing products? Where do their products seem to go? I'm going to be on their email list. I'm going to do some market research, shadow NPS surveys, these types of things. And I'm going to put all that together in basically a dashboard or a view. And then you're basically going to journal a bit about like, okay, it seems like they did this thing, then this happened. They did this thing, then this happened. And in your summary, you start to have things like, it's almost like a couple of bullets around temperament, how reactionary they are, and the things that they tend to care about or the things that they tend to kind of react to. And then every single time something happens that you properly predicted or that grated against what your prediction was, you update your profile. And then that allows you to really understand and helps you kind of build your judgment around what that company is.
