I write you a cold email. You don't respond. A trend that popped up in 2020-2021 was the idea of following up to that original email with an email that just said 'Thoughts?' The reason it worked: One, nobody was doing it. Two, it drove this urgency. This feel of like almost an internal email that you would send to somebody internally if like, "Hey, did you have thoughts on this?" Because everyone started using it. It stopped working. Some things that you can do when you're following up that would work now is taking that same 'thoughts' bump. Taking the reasons that it worked, and then finding a slightly different way to do it. So I would give context for why I reached out in the first email. So it'd be, "Hey Will, did you have any thoughts on my note? Reason I ask is because of the following thing: [insert reason]." And that extra little bit gives them just enough context that they might want to go check out that first note, but it doesn't look like the same trend that they get in their inbox.
