SF v. NY ick A really niche ick that I have is when people mismatch the framing to their idea or the uniqueness or depth of it. Basically, like if you have a boring or surface level idea, do not try to present it like it's the best thing since sliced bread. Acknowledge it's shallow. Someone said to me the other day, I have this theory that going forward, hiring is going to be less competence and employers are going to index way more heavily on agency. It's like, oh, that's your theory? Have that in 2025 distribution is more important for startups. Where is that? People try they mimic the way they see East Coast people at a party. The canonical image that comes to mind for me is like a guy perched on a couch at Studio 54 and he's holding court with an avid group of listeners. I have a theory that the sweet green on 33rd and Park is actually a money laundering front. Oh my god, and what? People don't East Coast game is way more about entertainment and social value and commentary than making sense or being airtight. If you listen to some talking head opine about AI on NPR or Fran Lebowitz doing rapid fire cultural commentary for that shit is for entertainment. But in SF, about being space on pole your ideas. If you come to me with your framework for marketing and there's nothing novel or nuanced demonstrative of expertise in there, it's worse than if you said nothing.
