OpenAI might be buying Pinterest and here is why it is a huge deal. So OpenAI is at a massive disadvantage right now. Platforms like Meta, Google and even X have search platforms and social engines that are feeding them billions of data points every single day. But OpenAI don't have that. And even Meta's recent acquisition of Manus for billions of dollars, they have done the exact reverse of what OpenAI are intending to do with Pinterest. Pinterest has over 600 million monthly active users that are searching for products, sharing what they like and generating valuable shopping data. And that's exactly what OpenAI need in order to make ChatGPT a shopping powerhouse. Right now, OpenAI is burning money on expensive data deals with publishers. But if they own Pinterest, they actually get fresh real time data on what people are actually shopping for. And the real risk is without their own data source, they could really fall behind from their competitors. They need to monetize faster and Pinterest shopping insights could be the answer. And for marketers, this could spark a huge demand for people wanting to advertise on Pinterest again. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
