Apple, Google strike Gemini deal for revamped Siri in major win for Google and Apple. That's right. Apple today announced that they have chosen Gemini's models to be the backbone for Siri. And this has massive implications across the entire AI ecosystem. Let's get started with just the fact that Apple is one of the largest footprints for mobile devices in the entire world. iPhones are everywhere. And the fact that Gemini is going to be baked into iPhones as part of Siri is a very big deal. The other side of this that I think is really important to understand is that OpenAI had a deal with Apple to power kind of a limited version of Siri. If you remember, if you ask Siri something right now, it says, can I open ChatGPT for that? Uh, you know, that's gonna probably go away based on this, which I think for OpenAI was a very early sign that they were kind of making huge inroads. Overall, I think it's hard to underestimate how big of a deal this is in the AI space. First and foremost, it just means that Apple is going to get much better AI. Siri has been pretty brutal. I think the other side of this that's really tricky is that OpenAI has this massive footprint, like 800 million, uh, monthly users of ChatGPT, but is slowly losing a little bit of that to Gemini as Gemini got better. This is a battle for the mainstream users. So the reason this matters is that one specific thing keeps bubbling up in my brain is that the company that solves the personal AI assistant is going to rule a lot of stuff. They're going to rule shopping, they're going to rule events, they're going to rule calendars, because all of that is a lock in. And the more that personal assistant knows about your life, your preferences, things you want, the less likely you are to jump to other companies. And I think that is what everybody is shooting for right now. If by the end of 2026, one of these companies has solved personalisation and memory, watch out, because that company will start to gain steam at an incredible pace. And I think what both Google and OpenAI here are doing is shooting for that thing.
