Once you're associated with an elite reputation you can fail upwards. Yesterday I talked about the importance of having a brand that's associated with exclusivity. Where the main takeaway was to do everything in your power to get hired at an elite company. And one thing people don't realize is that once you're at an elite company, you can be extremely mediocre, even get fired or laid off. It'll be relatively easy for you to get another job at the same level or even a higher level at another great company. This is called failing upwards. I've seen this over and over in my career where someone who is borderline bad, to get fired at a certain company, will end up getting a leadership position at another great company. This seems kind of counterintuitive, but this is how the world works once you have a reputation that's associated with prestige and exclusivity. So do everything in your power to join that prestigious company. I promise you, this will make your life 10 times easier.
