This person says, should I CTO a pre-seed pre-revenue (but good idea, VC funding + plan to revenue) or join Anthropic @ 350B? I don't know if the expected value of joining pre-seed is higher than Anthropic. #OfferEvaluation #offers #vc #ai. Current TC: 0. YoE: 4. Their job offer from Anthropic would be for a Senior Software Engineer position, total comp four hundred and eighty K per year. Base salary two eighty K, equity two hundred K. Then they posted their CTO position at the startup, total comp three hundred and twenty five K per year. Seventy five K is base salary and two fifty K in equity. The first thing to mention here is that this early stage startup, the equity should effectively be valued at like zero dollars. This is pre-seed pre-revenue. The expected outcome of this is that this just goes to zero. So this person should only ever do this if there's amazing VC funding from top tier investors, if there's an amazing founding team and potentially it's worth rolling the dice and effectively buying in my opinion, a lottery ticket. This person is dumb if they take this offer. They should go to Anthropic. Once they're at Anthropic, they can use Anthropic's name and they can go join an early stage startup or raise money for their own company after. Looks like 81% of people go to Anthropic and then 18.7% of people say go to startup. What you think, which job offer and why?
