This is what cows and bison can teach us about hard things. When cows sense a storm coming, they run in the opposite direction, trying to outrun it. But the storm is faster and inevitably still comes. So not only are they in it longer, but they get hit by the peak of it. Bison on the other hand, the opposite sense when they sense a storm coming, they walk into it. They run into discomfort. They don't run away from discomfort, they face it head on. And because they move through it, they actually get out of it faster. This is a great lesson on how the things we try to avoid don't disappear. In fact, avoidance stretches out the inevitable, making it harder to face the longer we leave it. When we face things directly, when we walk head on into discomfort, the storm usually passes sooner and easier imagined. So sometimes out the fastest way out is through.
