The problem for most car advertising is that it all looks exactly the same. Long and windy road, sharp turns, all with the same feature call-outs. And how many of these have you really paid attention to? When what you do is expected for the category, people ignore you, which is what makes the launch of the all new 2026 Mazda CX-5 interesting. Instead of leading with one of those traditional car ads, they hired award-winning Hoyt van Hoytema to make five narrative shorts, each one a different movie genre. Romance, action, sci-fi, musical, and horror. In each one, they use the same woman, but a different cinematic world. And in each world, you subtly pick up on a different feature of the car. The expanded safety suite, the panoramic moonroof, the new 15 inch touchscreen, all done in a way that feels like storytelling. Instead of telling you what the vehicle can do and getting trapped in a world of listing features, they built five different worlds to show you, which all work to drive home the brand messaging, five sides of the CX-5.
