So if you have not heard, state farm is changing their agency contracts to a single contract, meaning that some agents that have been in the game with state farm for a long time could potentially be losing a lot of money. Someone who was scouting by state farm a few years ago, took their entire test and they were waiting to give me an agency. Here's the reasons why I said no and why I chose to go the independent route. Number one reason why I chose not to go captive and to go independent was because on the captive side you don't truly own your book of business and you are tied into one company's rates, one company's changes, like you really have no say in what is going on. That company makes changes to their products and what they want to sell. You are tied into all of that. First is being independent, even if one of my companies says, hey, we no longer write this, I have other companies that can offer coverage to my clients. The reason why I chose to do independent was because I was like if I'm going to even though Steve Farm was offering me an agency, I guess, If I was going to build from scratch, I was like, I want to build something that's truly going to be mine that like I can pass down. Like a state farm agency, you cannot technically just be like, oh, I'm going to pass this down to my kid like as you could with an independent agent. See. So I was like, yeah, I want to have complete freedom in like how I move my agency and like what I want to do with it in the future. Now, one down side about owning an independent insurance agency is that there is no real structure and how to build your business is how to make all of your processes and how to get everything flowing so that you can just run a successful agency.
