Time ins are an amazing alternative to traditional time outs that still allow for a child to be denied a certain privilege, while receiving their parent’s love & help to regulate (which they NEED as chidlren). The conversation from part 1 wasn’t the end of the “time in” and my 3 YO still had to have a 5 minute break as part of her consequence for hitting. We have to always look at the function of our child’s behavior which can be: Access to Attention, Access to Tangible, Escape from demand, Automatic (like self stimulatory) For all of the people in part 1 who said time with me was a reward, she is clearly very upset about having to take a break and does NOT see this as something good or fun. When children get adequate affection and attention in general, they don’t go seeking it by misbehaving. If access to attention seems to be a frequent function of your child’s behavior, then you need to reassess your own parenting and start building in a lot more connection time & giving lots of positive attention for all good and even neutral behaviors #parenting #discipline #timeout #gentleparenting #momtok Why I do a time in instead of a time out What’s a time in Time out putting kids in time out
