Watch a natural consequence

Natural consequences are the BEST teachers in life & I don’t prevent my children from experiencing them, because sometimes they’ve got to feel the fire to know that it’s hot. Of course it’s never my goal for my kids to get hurt & I’ll do everything I can to warn & help them, but if they choose not to listen to my directions, they’ll experience the natural consequence for that action. This was really the best case scenario and my 5.5 YO barely touched the pan and got a tiny little singe on her finger. It wasn’t even enough to leave a mark or run cold water over it, but after this happened, she was much more cautious and quick to follow my directions And in case you’re confused, THIS is gentle parenting. I am letting the natural consequence be the “bad guy” instead of me being the “bad guy” by adding toxic shame, stress, and anger to an already distressing situation.
