This single print paid for my entire 3D printer. I just saved myself $1,800 by 3D printing this single part. So I've been recently working on getting my pilot's license. And one of the first things everybody recommends you buy for yourself is a good headset. The problem is, they're like almost two grand new. But after some eBay sifting, I was able to find a used pair that were not only insanely cheap, but in great condition, except for this crack on the wishbone piece, which is one of the main structural components of the headset. I was lucky enough that somebody already 3D modeled this part, so I sent it off to the printer. I used a carbon fiber infused PETG for this print, a much more durable plastic than you normally see in 3D printing. You'll also see some white plastic in there, and that's because I'm using a different plastic for the support material. If you don't know what that means, when you print an object like this that has a big overhang on the print, the 3D printing software is going to auto-generate a little 3D printed column underneath that object, so it has a surface to print on and lay the plastic on. Then when you're done, you remove it, and you just cut off the little support material. Usually that surface where you cut it is really rough because you're literally cutting plastic that was fused together. What you can do, however, and what I'm doing here, is you can actually print your support material out of an entirely different type of plastic that doesn't chemically bond with the main plastic you're using. So they just fall right off. Anyway, two hours later, and the parts were done, and they turned out so good. See normally these would be fused in the plastic, but I can just pull them right off. Those turned out so well. Now it looks like just a few screws. And just like that, we are mounted up and I think this looks as good as new, if not better. And even though it doesn't need them, I got some new ear cups and a headband for it, just to make it feel new. And just like that, I have a headset that's as good as new, and honestly probably more durable than the original parts for a fraction of the price.
