What is this? This is unconventional data transmission. We're transmitting text and images through a QR code generator. So we are going to send a picture of a creeper using our barcode scanner. So we generate a QR code and then we scan it with this barcode scanner that we borrowed from work. I can't think of a worse way to transmit data, but these other ones look even worse. So next, we're going to transmit the lyrics of All Star through a rotating motor. So one step to the left equals a zero, one step to the right equals a one. So there's a motor here that's inputting from here, reading it on a little encoder, outputting it out here. Exactly. That's even worse than the barcode. What else do you got? So next, we can transmit images using light. So this is like a really bad fiber optic system. So next, I'm going to send the open source logo using a flashing white LED. This flashing must much faster than you can see, but we're not doing any frequency shifting or anything. It's literally just turning on and off using something called differential Manchester encoding. Next is my favorite module. This is the solenoid module. So I'm going to send the missile over solenoids. So here you're seeing eight data bits and a clock and it shifts it out one byte at a time. Oh, so these are Okay, so these are driving the solenoids. The solenoids are clicking a switch. That switch is decoding it. Oh man. It's a lot like me poking you with a stick from across the room and that's how we're communicating. Oh, that is so cool. And like so audibly satisfying, too. So cool. Of all of these, what was the hardest one to diagnose and tinker with to get it to work? This one is always giving us trouble. We're always having the coupler is kind of loose. The encoders are super cheap. We'd like to get an absolute position one if we were to redo it. Um, but this is our second year, year here, so we uh we might make a new exhibit next year.
