How I landed my £35k grad scheme straight out of university
(With no previous corporate experience)
1. Apply Early
• Grad schemes open in September
• Make sure you're one of the first to apply
• Most grad schemes close early because of the volume of applicants
• Make sure to apply for as many as you can. I applied to over 100+ grad schemes
2. Practice psychometric tests
• Employers use these tests to understand how well you can solve problems under pressure
• Types of tests: Verbal reasoning which tests how well you can follow written instructions
• Numerical reasoning which tests how well you can handle data
• There's lots of free online tests you can practice before attempting the real thing

3. Prepare answers for the video interview
• Google common interview questions and write down your answer to each question (use the STAR method)
• Film yourself answering those questions and rewatch it to see where you messed up
• Pro tip: Speak clearly so that the AI algorithm can pick up what you're saying. Use buzz words from the job spec in your answer
4. Assessment Centre Prep
• In the group exercise make sure you're collaborative. Don't overpower the room trying to show off, employers pick up quickly on overconfident candidates
• Have an answer ready as to why you want to work for them and why that industry
• Ask really good questions at the end to show you're passionate and interested in the role
• Pro tip: Try to make small talk before the interview, talk about the weather, any holidays you're going to or ask how the interviewers how their days going
