Three lifts, one fixed order, and most 3x-a-week glute routines run them backwards. If you are burning out on kickbacks before you touch a barbell, your glutes are getting the leftover effort. 1. Heavy hip thrusts first. 4 sets of 6 to 8 while your nervous system is fresh, adding weight weekly. This is the movement with the highest peak glute activation, so it deserves the top of your energy, not the bottom. 2. Romanian deadlifts second. 3 sets of 8 to 10, controlled on the way down, feeling the stretch through the hamstring and lower glute. The loaded stretch is one of the strongest drivers of muscle growth and no cable machine replicates it. 3. Isolation last. Cable kickbacks and hip abductions, 2 sets of 12 to 15, taken close to failure. Doing these first drains the stabilizers and grip you need for the compounds, which is why so many glute workouts feel hard but never actually progress. Same order every session. Progressive overload on the compounds, high reps on the isolation, done. This is how a real glute workout plan is structured, and it is what a good lifting program should do for you automatically.
