Vegan watermelon sashimi made out of watermelon. I'm extremely skeptical but I'm down to try anything in the name of healthy alternative foods. And it's watermelon season to completely transform the taste. We marinate it overnight in a medley of soy sauce, rice vinegar and roasted seaweed, as well as a neutral oil. I'm using Algae Cooking Club, which despite the name is not fishy at all. But I also like to add a bit of miso. The way I see that soft, slimy, negiri texture is by drawing out all the moisture from the watermelon with heat. It's an insane concept, but I'm not gonna lie to you, it actually tasted pretty good. While obviously, like tuna, by itself, it tastes okay. My boyfriend is a huge raw meat lover. He was like, honestly, if you can't eat meat, this alternative is all right. Six of them. I don't know. I liked it.
