Let's get this straight. Some techs scare me too, but they just do the prep badly. This is not what a Russian Manicure done by a trained professional is. The technique's actual name is a combined dry manicure and means that we remove the cuticles using e-file and scissors or nippers. There is no exact one way of doing it. Every educator has their own preference of drill bits and movements. Yes, there are some general rules that we all follow but as a whole it is not a dangerous technique. We do not cut the living tissue. In fact cuticle scissors and nippers are included in every little at-home nail cutting kit. They have been in every drug/beauty store since I can remember myself. It has never been a mistake to cut the dead skin so why are people suddenly afraid of it? For some people it is even necessary as their cuticles get so dry that they start bleeding or cause hangnails and can lead to infections if you just pull it rather than cut. So don't be afraid of it. It is safer to go to someone who likes it and has learned how to do it than to someone who claims they are against it but is in fact using e-file and scissors.. just poorly. #russianmani #russianmanicure

Hi um do you do Russian manicure? Yes but first tell me what do you think Russian manicure actually means? I don't know like super smooth cuticles. That's basically the result people associate with it. Yes but Russian manicure isn't this dangerous secret technique people think it is. In fact it's just a slang word. Nail techs in Russia don't call it that. They call their technique a combined dry manicure. And it just means the prep is done using two tools. An e-file plus scissors or nippers. But then how you use those, what drill bits you choose, etcetera differs from one tech to another. So technically the majority of nail techs around the world do it. Wait. So what's the difference with the normal manicure then? Traditional manicure usually softens the cuticle with cuticle remover and then pushes it manually rather than with an e-file. So you don't cut the skin bit in the traditional manicure? You do nippers and scissors have existed for decades. It's not something new. But if the client prefers not to cut it, then that's fine too. And why do they call it dry manicure? Because it doesn't involve soaking. It was popular back in the day. Hardly anyone offers it before the manicure. Because nails absorb water and the nail plate expands slightly. So if you have the nail plate expanded and you apply gel polish when the nail is swollen, once it dries it shrinks back down but the coating remains in the original position. So now it has this wiggle room and it lifts and peels faster. But I've been to salons that use e-files and scissors and it still doesn't look like those perfect Russian manicures that I see online. Because the technique itself still depends on skill level. Two people can have the exact same tools and get completely different results. Also Russian manicure isn't illegal. No damaging someone's skin is illegal. But that's not what a combined manicure does. We don't cut living tissue. People online started associating bad work from certain techs with the entire technique. And now the term sounds controversial when in reality a combined manicure is one of the most common prep methods in the industry. Worldwide yes. Some people over file. They dig aggressively under the cuticle or cut the living tissue. This is unsafe. But those are mistakes made by the technician, not a characteristic of the technique as a whole.
