There are many schools of thought on how you should pay off debt but the one that’s best for you is the one you can be consistent with. These are things I quit doing to pay off $169k of debt (and you should too): 1. Ignoring the debt and pretending it’s going to fix itself. It’s not! Nobody is coming to save you. You have to look at the numbers, make peace with it, forgive yourself and make a plan of action to tackle it! 2. Not knowing how much TOTAL debt I was in and when I would be debt free if I kept only making minimum payments. This number and date will shock and humble you! 👆What’s your estimated debt free date? If you don’t know, and want a tool to track it visit the 🔗 on my page ! 3. Swiping credit cards! You’ve got to put them on ice and work off of cash until you get things under control. The points you think you’re earning are not helping you! 4. Using credit cards as your emergency fund of backup plan. You need to build an emergency fund. Pick a number to get you started and continue contributing to your EF WHILE you are paying off debt! Emergencies and unexpected expenses WILL pop up and you need this cash to help you instead of going into more debt! 5. Only making minimum payments on my debts. This is what’s keeping you in debt. Start small. Pick ONE debt and put extra money towards it. Make the min payment on everything else. 6. Thinking that small amounts didn’t matter to my debt payoff and that I needed to wait until I had more money to make bigger progress. $5, $10, $20 makes a surprisingly big difference. 7. Letting money come in and out of your bank account with you a plan. Track your spending! It’s boring but necessary. You need to see where the leaks are. Use an app, a spreadsheet, pen & paper but make it part of your weekly routine! Be sure to follow along for more debtpayoff tips! #debt #debtpayoff #payingoffdebt #PersonalFinance #debtfreejourney
