Here's everything you need to know. There's a framework that was leaked from iOS 27 called App Managed Features and what it does is wild. If you lease your iPhone through Apple's new upgrade program which is rolling out this Tuesday and you miss enough payments, your iPhone will automatically go into something called Restricted Mode. Restricted mode means you lose access to all of your apps except for 9 of them. So these are the only apps you'll be able to continue using which include Phone, Wallet, Clock, Settings, Health, Passwords, Magnifier, Accessibility and App Store. That's it. No messages, no camera, no Safari, no social media apps, no Spotify, no Netflix, no iCloud. Even the camera won't function on your iPhone. That means that phone that you paid over a thousand dollars for just became a glorified flip phone. Now if you're paying for subscriptions like Netflix, Spotify or iCloud, they're still charging you and you can't open up any of these apps. You won't even be able to factory reset your phone to sell it or give it away either. You just have to pay up. But if it were me, I'd cancel the subscriptions so I could continue paying off the phone. This only goes into effect for any new iPhone that you finance through Apple's upgrade program which is powered by Klarna. And in case you're wondering, the lender decides how many payments you've missed before your iPhone goes into restricted mode.
