It is abused like crazy for SEO. This is Reddit's organic traffic graph over time: It's pretty much been going up and up and up and up. But lately, the SEO spam has started to get combated. It's a very small dent, but this huge ranking drop could be an early indicator of a downfall. Just a couple months ago, the Digg beta shut down citing SEO spammers as the reason. They then relaunched in a way that makes it much harder to do SEO. One of the partners for the Digg relaunch is Alexis Ohanian. Alexis is a co-founder of Reddit.
