ipad vs laptop do you NEED them both for college??? ipad or laptop ipad or laptop do you need them both in college? I'm going into my senior year at Penn State and I've had both a laptop and an iPad for all four years, well, three years. Here's my thoughts. Do you need both of them? The simple answer is no. Absolutely not. Is there one that I prefer over the other? The laptop, 100%. Like, if you're going to get one over the other, get the laptop. Do I use my iPad? Yes, almost every single day. What do I use them for? What's the difference? Let's get into it. I have an HP OmniBook 360. This is new for me. And before I was using the HP Envy. Love her. Absolutely obsessed with her. Um, I broke it. It was my own fault. The only difference about my OmniBook from my Envy is that the Envy was, like, reversible and so you could use it as a tablet or a laptop. So if you can't decide between an iPad or a laptop, I highly recommend getting a 2-in-1 like the Envy!!! I've never had an Apple laptop, but I love the Microsoft compatibility and speed of the HP laptops. I've never had an issue using HP, but cannot speak on Apple since I've never tried. I've always been an HP girl through and through. You need the laptop though. You need the laptop. Everything is online. The only things that you might do on paper, like maybe scan trons, like paper exams, like you do in class, even taking notes, rarely do I see people taking notes with a pen and paper. You need it because all your assignments, studying, your textbooks, everything. It's all online. It's all going to be through Canvas or similar websites. And yes, you can rent them from the school, you can borrow them from the school, but it's so much easier to just have your own. Investing it now because guess what? You're not just going to need it for college. You're going to need it for your job too. The only time I'm leaving my apartment without my laptop in my bag is when I have my iPad. I use my iPad for all things note-taking and studying. I do not use my iPad to complete assignments. I do not use my iPad to take exams. But I do use my iPad to write out my notes. So I love having my Apple pen, but I use Goodnotes. It's not sponsored or anything. I use the free version of Goodnotes. I've been using it since my freshman year of college. People have commented telling me there's no way you have that, you're paying for the premium subscription. I've never paid a single dollar to Goodnotes, so I don't really know how I'm getting away with this, but I use Goodnotes every single day. My recent purchase for me was this iPad case with the keyboard. It is kind of a game changer. Might be like if you have the keyboard on the iPad, then why do you have the laptop? Because the iPad and the laptop serve different purposes. Like I cannot do everything on the iPad that I can do on my laptop. I can't scroll through Google, I can't use it to easily edit my documents. It's annoying having to tap on everything all the time. So if I'm doing work, I'm using my laptop. Sometimes I didn't want to carry my big laptop with me everywhere. I would bring my little iPad. Just if I'm taking notes or if I'm doing things like that. It's nice to have the iPad set up and propped up so I can have my notes right here and I'm on my laptop setting up my quizlet studying or I'm watching the videos as I'm looking back over the notes. I really, really like having both of them for studying. I also like having my iPad because I like to watch shows on my iPad. We're talking iPad or laptop. Laptop. Laptop. Laptop. If you can have both, it's a luxury. I think at the end of the day, it's all about who you are as a student, how you learn and the things that are important to you.
