If you're in accounting, this is huge news. Grant Thornton just bought CBIZ for $5 billion, which is one of the largest deals in accounting ever. And it speaks to the fact that there's a lot more private equity, there's a lot more funding to consolidate accounting firms. Recent headline transactions, including New Mountain Capital's backing of Grant Thornton Advisors and Blackstone's acquisition of Citrin Cooperman, signal growing maturity and sustained roll-up potential. "By combining our multinational platform with CBIZ’s strong market presence, we’re broadening our ability to support businesses through every stage of growth — from early development to global scale,” Jim Peko, CEO of Grant Thornton Advisors and leader of the Grant Thornton Advisors multinational platform, said in a statement. “Together, we’ll bring the quality, scope and capabilities clients need to navigate an increasingly complex and rapidly evolving business environment.” If you're going into accounting or thinking about working for Grant Thornton or what's working for CBIZ, it just means more opportunities. Even if you don't go to a big four, you can still have that large scale feel at some of these companies like Grant Thornton now because they have more clients, they have more reach, they have more resources for the latest technology and all that. So you'll have all that available to you even if you don't get to a big four public accounting firm. It just means that accounting is still in this flux period where people are trying to figure out what's going to be best long term for their employees and then also for the type of AI we might see in accounting. I'm interested to hear your thoughts. What do you think about the acquisition? Let me know in the comments. If you do want to stay up to date with the latest in accounting, make sure to like and follow. Let's go. Peace.
