The majority of people who do yoga have no idea that it's a spiritual practice. And it's fascinating to me because the Westernization of yoga has lead people to believe that it's purely a form of exercise and something that's good for your body, when it is inherently part of a spiritual system called the Patanjali Yoga Sutras that was created by a sage in India over 1500 years ago. And asana, the third limb of the eight limbs of yoga, um, is primarily what is taught and practiced as yoga in the West America and around the world. When there are other important tenants of the eight limbs of yoga, like concentration, breath, work, ethics, um, all leading to enlightenment and liberation, which is, um, the. The. The purest form of, of a spiritual practice. And you don't have to identify with being a spiritual person. You do have to respect and understand yoga as a spiritual practice. Like, I'm a very spiritual person and I love doing yoga, and I respect it as a spiritual practice. But when things become Westernized, they often become diluted. And a result of that dilution is that the, the messaging and the understanding around what something inherently is loses its value. And so you have the majority of yoga practitioners basically thinking that they're doing something for exercise and it feels good to them. But the reason why it feels good is because they're transcending, uh, parts of themselves and completely unaware of it. And I just think that that needs to change, and people need to respect yoga as a spiritual practice.
