The internet roasted my desi maximalist Coachella looks as being quote unquote "tacky." And this week, I'm going to America's biggest Asian music festival with Coach. But will it be possible for me to style a desi maximalist, festival-friendly outfit? Here's the thing. Jhumkas, stickers, dupattas, and even zardosi beadwork that's now branded as "Ibiza" fashion have all been festival staples. They just never get recognized as South Asian. I scoured the trenches of Reddit to really understand what the internet defines as "American festival fashion." There was, of course, boho-chella, EDM/rave costumes, elevated/practical Lollapalooza, and much more. Then there's the desi maximalist part. It shows up in your entire lifestyle. Now, in fashion, desi maximalism manifests itself through regional patterns, fabric holds meaning, unique fabrics tied to specific occasions, and statement jewelry. Sometimes it's even as simple as a bindi at the end of your makeup routine. I'll be documenting everything as I create my perfect look! So stay tuned, and please don't go bald <3 (reminded myself to check my hairline lmao)
