On my platform, I follow the money. And sometimes that money brings us to places we hadn't known. In some recent research I came across a donation that caught my attention. And that was a donation to Donald Trump by the co-founder of Autism Speaks. According to FEC data, Robert Wright, the co-founder of Autism Speaks, donated to Donald Trump in 2017. To be very clear, Autism Speaks is a non-profit. They don't donate to politics. This was the co-founders individual giving. Now Robert Wright and his wife founded Autism Speaks after their grandchild was diagnosed with autism. Which makes you wonder why you would vote for a candidate who has hurt people with autism? In 2025, Trump cut Medicaid spending by $911 billion over 10 years. Autism Speaks directly said that this would hurt people with autism, community support, therapies and other interventions. Trump has also been pushing vaccine conspiracies around autism, which Autism Speaks holds the stance not connected. Again, this is not Autism Speaks directly donating. But people have a right to ask why the a major autism organization would support a candidate whose rhetoric and policies have harmed the very people the organization is trying to serve!
