Surprise, it turns out that the food stamp program is actually a significant driver of revenue for big corporations like Conagra, Kraft Heinz, and PepsiCo. When American citizens receive benefits like this, they don't spend that money on stock buybacks. They spend it in the grocery store buying food because they were food insecure. But because groceries were the only thing that people could buy with those benefits, when those benefits go away, they buy fewer groceries. Although the problem of food insecurity does not go away. Last year, the average recipient of food stamps got about $188 per month. However, the Big Beautiful Bill passed, which is intended to cut trillions of dollars of US spending over the next decade, and the food stamps program is a part of that. And its funding is going to be cut by around $187 billion over the next 10 years, and people are feeling that already. In fact, since the bill passed, there are 3.5 million fewer people receiving food stamp benefits. In Arizona, the recipients of food stamps declined by 42 per cent. On the surface, if you wanted to cut government spending, that's probably a really good number to hear. But in reality, you're just shifting the people that were getting food stamps to food banks. And in Arizona, the number of people receiving help from the food bank increased from about 150,000 to 200,000. And while the recipients are bearing the brunt of that pressure, the corporations are feeling it too because there's plenty of well-known grocery stores that generate more than 5% of their revenue from food stamp recipients. And at those grocery stores, the money from the food stamps is typically spent on products from other big corporations. So inadvertently, it seems like corporations were also benefiting from the food stamp program. But what do you think about this? How do you think that these corporations will respond?
