Whoever said never wake a sleeping baby must have hated parents because it is so frustrating for me to hear this. And I will always encourage you to wake your baby because your baby has a 24-hour sleep needs they need to achieve. But also they will have a specific nighttime amount they are only capable of. It doesn't matter if they usually during the day, but one day they slept 2 minutes. They will still only need roughly the same amount. They won't need suddenly 12 hours when they've only, it just doesn't work that way. And I worked closely with 1,000 babies, something that I really seek to families understand about how sleep pressure works, their circadian rhythm works, their individual sleep needs. So you should always wake your baby if you want stretches of sleep at night. I am very much okay with this because I have time and time again, how parents wake their babies from naps and they sleep at night, so much happier and parents have time to themselves, which is so important as well. It also gives parents elements of predictability and a small element of control, fine. Great if we could just let as much as they wanted, live that way. But unfortunately, our set up in support parents. And with our jobs, with our lives, parents to parents as if they don't have children. If you want to have yourself and your little one to sleep lovely, consistent long stretches, to wake them.
