If you've never been in a relationship before and you've spent the majority of your life feeling bad about that, let me share a couple pieces of advice with you that I think actually changed my entire perspective and outlook on dating, especially as a girl who literally didn't date her entire life. I can count on literally one hand how many dates I've been on. And I got my first boyfriend in my late 20s, okay? If you are down bad right now about not being in a relationship, never been in a relationship, you just do need to get busier. You have to be busier. I think like especially in your 20s, if you're like, I've never been in a relationship, why isn't this happening? You're genuinely just not busy with everything else in your life. Like there's a reason why they say it happens when you least expect it. Because when you least expect it is when you are the busiest in your life. You're busy with your job, you're busy with your friends, you're moving to new cities, you have passions, you have hobbies. I know it's very hard, like I'm saying this as a girl who like ruined her 20s thinking about the fact that she was perpetually single. You can get fucking busier. You can get out of your head about dating. You can learn how to decenter dating. You need to legitimately have conversations with people that do not revolve around dating. Sometimes, yes, you're gonna sit down with your girlfriends and you're gonna yap about each other's situationships. I get it. But if you're in a season of your life where you're feeling insecure, especially about dating, you need to not be spending time with people that only want to talk about dating and being in relationships. That's just like literally the truth of it all. Very important to have conversations outside of that. Sometimes, yes, you're gonna sit down with your girlfriends and you're gonna yap about each other's situationships. I get it. That's just like literally the truth of it all. Very important to have conversations outside of that. How powerful and incredible it is to spend time with yourself. To spend time alone. And sometimes you do need to romanticize the fuck out of being by yourself and being alone. And I know that this is easier said than done, but truly if you start like making a list in your notebook, writing down in your journal, like what are the things that I get to do by myself? What are the things that I get to do that allow me to enjoy my own company? When I started reframing being single as just another way to actually just spend more time with myself, I got over it. It is normal and it is okay to not want to date, to have no desire to date, to have never been in a relationship. I let it literally define an entire decade of my life. I will literally only regret the time that I spent worrying about the fact that I had never been in a relationship as opposed to the fact that I was never in a relationship.
