Hook
As someone who graduated from a very large state school last May, okay? You guys and I'm specifically talking to members of Gen Z here because that's my generation. I'm 23 and I see this happen online literally every single fall. You guys have got to stop bailing on college before the first month is even over, okay? I saw this in real life a few times with like random kids in my dorm hall that were there and then they weren't. And I've seen it many, many, many times online. Let me tell you something. Being uncomfortable, being scared, being bored, feeling left out, that is simply part of being a young adult, okay? And I say this as someone who went to school not knowing anyone. I did not move in with a roommate that I really knew. I didn't have a ton of friends there. I literally made all of my friends at college from scratch, okay? And I do mean organically. I was not on Bumble BFF. Like, I literally went up to people in the dining hall or in the dorm or in my class or whatever and you know, tried to make friends with them. I was literally friendless. Like, I did not know anyone at all until Halloween. My freshman year of college. So, two months. And it was just like, hard. A lot of people had these weird little clicks in the first couple months that of course dissolved and like whatever. And I was a bit of a socially anxious person, believe it or not, back then. I was only 18. And I didn't, you know, really know what I was doing socially. And I remember I called my parents one weekend, this was like late September or maybe early October. And I was like, please, like, just let me come home this weekend. I don't do anything on the weekends because I'm just so, like, I'm so lonely. Like, I don't have any friends here and this isn't for me. And I don't want to be here. And my parents were like, no. You're not going to do that. Um, you know, how many of events and fairs are there at your huge school, this weekend alone? Go out there and make some friends and report back to us. What are you talking about? And at the time, I remember it really pissed me off. I was like, my god, they just don't get it. They don't understand how hard this is for me. And I know what they're fucking right. They were right. I switched dorms, um, maybe a month, month and a half until living there. Met a group of girls that I'm still close friends with to this day. And from that point on, um, it was much easier for me to make friends in class because I just started becoming more confident and talking to people. Okay? Like, please, if you're watching this and you're feeling like, oh my god, this sucks and you know, I don't know anyone and everybody's new to me. And I feel confused all the time. Everybody fucking feels weird, okay? It's a completely new scenario. You literally move away from everything you know and start school in a new location. Like, you're not the only one feeling weird, okay? Please give it a shot. You have to give life a shot. You cannot simply walk away every single time something gets hard and you're never going to make any progress in your entire fucking life. If you do that.
