Replying to @cribber many Native American and indigenous people who fall under the Jay Treaty live and work in two countries. There are even native nations that are on the border with part of it in Canada and part of it in America. When I was stopped by an NYPD officer I gave my valid, confined by a Judge, Quebec drivers license as well as my registration (car was registered in Quebec), and native status card (federally issued). My drivers license has no address on it because the native Mohawk nation has no addresses. It only lists my native nation. He had a problem with everything I gave him. He called me an illegal ommigrant, said I needed proper identification and he said he wanted to see my passport. He also gave me a ticket for unlicensed driving (dismissed by judge). But this highlights systematic issues on how native people, native women are treated as well as the lack of education and training on how to handle these situations. While this was a few years ago @Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani could maybe implement some training based on this to make sure it doesn’t happen again. #legalreform #nativeamerican #IndigenousTikTok #nativefamily
