Today is orange shirt day, also known as truth, and reconciliation day in Canada and it recognizes the history harm and struggle that Native American and indigenous people have endured because of residential schools. Despite being forced into these institutions by both the church and the government native and indigenous people have remained resilient. Orange shirt day was started by Phyllis Webstad after she was forcefully placed in the Saint Joseph’s missionary Indian residential school. Survivors organized with her leading in 2013. In Canada followed suit in 2021. #everychildmatters #orangeshirtday #truthandreconciliation #nativetiktok #nativeamerican
