Tap the link in my bio to start the drawing drills course Cross contour hatching lets your lines do two things at once. They shade the object AND describe its form. Instead of laying flat hatch marks over everything, let your lines wrap around the surface like they’re actually touching it. If the form curves, your lines curve. If the plane changes direction, your lines respond to it. Keep each pass parallel and evenly spaced, then layer additional passes wherever you need darker values. You’re already making the lines. You might as well make them explain the form too.
