Your shading likely looks fake because you're forgetting about the most important part of how light works. To darken the area that's in and even though it starts to sphere with a shadow below it, it just doesn't have that realism you're aiming for. Let's draw the same sphere, but this time try building up the shadow a going for a dark midtone first, then building up the core shadow of the shadow. You forgot about before. The reflected light comes right below the core shadow that bounces off of the surface near the that delicately illuminates of the form. And here's the matter what form you're drawing, it will always have reflected light. You wanna advance your skills so realistically in my bio, drawing drills course.
