Hook
The most boring piece of advice I can give you is keep your expenses low. I think people, when they start making money, they want to reward themselves by falling into all the trappings of buying a fancy car, fancy watches and things like that. This is how rich people keep poor people poor. The rich aren't concerned about this. So there's this idea that I have, it's called the game of money. The game of money goes something like this. You need to make enough money so that your money makes you money. The problem is we get close to that and what we do is we have low impulse control. We have short term thinking. So we buy things. Now, back where I grew up, I grew up in NorCal and Silicon Valley and immigrant culture. People want to flex. They want to flex with the Gucci, Fendi bags, their expensive shoes and sunglasses and their BMW or their Mercedes. And they live in a tiny little house somewhere. And this is unfortunately part of like the mindset that traps poor people. What happens is the rich sell you an idea of what it's to be like, what it's to what it's what it's like to be rich by selling you little fragments, and artifacts of real wealth. So we can't afford the helicopter. We can't afford the European Italian vacation in a private mansion. So what they do is they sell you the symbols of that life, the fragrance, the clothes or the bow tie or whatever it is. They sell you little pieces of that life and then they create ads to sell you the fantasy. So what we do is we part with that money. So that money helps them to make more money, but it doesn't get you out of the hole. So you want to hit escape velocity on this by making enough money so your money makes you money. Because now you're you're going to be freed from exchanging time for money.
