One of the strangest things about chronic stress is how physical it can become. Everyone is telling you it's “just stress,” but your heart is pounding, you feel dizzy, your stomach is a mess and you can’t take a proper breath. Just stress, yeah. Some of the symptoms I wish I knew could be linked to stress: ——— Hi, I’m Sasha 👋 Together with a doctor, I'm building Anticipate, a chronic stress and burnout companion. It helps you: • Track your patterns • Catch burnout early • Build better anti-burnout habits Search “Anticipate” on the App Store 🤍 ——— 1. Feeling dizzy or lightheaded This can happen during periods of high stress, anxiety or poor sleep. 2. Feeling like you can’t take a full breath Stress can change the way you breathe and make you feel like you’re not getting enough air. 3. Your heart suddenly pounding Stress hormones can make your heart beat faster or harder. 4. Feeling unreal or disconnected Derealisation can happen during intense stress and anxiety. 5. Nausea, bloating or stomach pain Stress can affect digestion and make your gut more sensitive. 6. Tingling or numb hands and feet Fast or shallow breathing can sometimes cause tingling. 6. Jaw, neck or shoulder pain Stress can make you tense your muscles without noticing. 7. Headaches that keep coming back Stress can trigger headaches and migraines in some people. 8. Shaking or trembling Adrenaline can make your hands or body shake. 9. Feeling exhausted but unable to relax You can feel completely drained while your body still feels switched on. The difficult part is that these symptoms often feel completely unrelated to stress when they’re happening. It took me a long time to connect the dots. “IT’S ME. WHAT DO I DO?” First, accept that chronic stress can show up in your body in very real ways. Then, recognise that living like this isn’t healthy. Don’t try to push harder through the symptoms or do even more. Do the opposite. Start making more space for: sleep, self-care, recovery. Put it in your schedule. Prioritise it. Protect it RUTHLESSLY. I’m creating Anticipate for exactly this. It connects your data and journal, shows you what keeps you stuck in stress, and helps you find realistic space to recover around the life you actually have.
